Each spring, volunteers show up at LaBonte Park on potential migration nights to patrol 9th and Canby streets. Salamanders are picked up off the roads as they cross and brought safely to the edge of LaBonte Pond. Volunteers spend however long they’d like helping to protect and conserve this population of salamanders. Are you interested in volunteering to help Laramie’s salamanders safely complete their annual migration? Children 8 years and above are welcome to become a volunteer if accompanied by an adult.

To participate in the salamander migration nights, please fill out the form below. Mark your calendars for the required volunteer training on Saturday, April 12 from 10-11 AM at the UW College of Business Auditorium (Located at the corner of Ivinson and 15th). Because the University of Wyoming requires that we have a liability waiver on record for every person attending the migration, we can no longer allow group sign-ups. Please submit a registration form for every individual attending the migration nights. Thank you for volunteering! Keep an eye on your email for migration night updates!
The salamander migration typically occurs in wet weather when the ground is thawed and temperatures are above freezing. In Laramie, this means on any rainy night above freezing in early spring, salamanders might be on the move! Check back here often for the most up-to-date forecast before heading out to the park to volunteer or observe the migration.
